Diamond Head Theatre is pleased to announce that its capital campaign committee members include board members and theatre lovers from diverse sectors of the community: Chair Rick Ching of Servco Pacific, Mike Ching of EY, Rick Chong of Albert Chong Associates, Paul deVille, Susan Eichor of aio Group, Elisia Flores of L&L Hawaii, Randy Harris, Gabe Lee of American Savings Bank, Colin Miwa of Cades Schutte LLP, David Okabe of Hawaii Pacific Health.
A 2007 building assessment deemed that a new structure would be more cost-effective than renovating the existing theatre, which is a former USO movie house built for temporary use in 1933. Since then, planning has been underway.
“It’s been a long and exciting journey to make this dream a reality,” says Deena Dray, DHT Executive Director of 25 years. “It’s time for us to ensure that our theatre can be a place of entertainment, education, escape, and sheer joy for generations to come.”
Each season DHT offers six mainstage theatrical productions, including five major musicals, on a scale that rivals that of Broadway. Education has always been a vital part of the mission at DHT. From year-round classes in dancing, singing and acting for all ages, to a youth performing troupe, The Shooting Stars, DHT has remained at the forefront of arts education in our community.
