There are several areas in which Diamond Head Theatre needs volunteers.
Although each area may require experience, the most important requirements are enthusiasm and a willingness to give Diamond Head Theatre time and positive energy. We will provide instruction and supervision where and when required.

Box Office - Daytime
Regular Box Office hours are Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. The volunteer hours would be somewhere between these hours. Box Office volunteers will be required to take ticket orders, both on the phone and in person, process payments, print tickets and simple filing.
The Box Office requires volunteers with:
- Computer literacy
- Good telephone personality
- Basic math skills
- Legible handwriting
- Ability to deal with the public over the telephone and in person
- Patience
- Able to make a time commitment (minimum of 4 hours per week)
Box Office - Showtime
These volunteers help pass out tickets at the Box Office will call and assist the House Manager as needed.
This job requires volunteers with:
- Good personality
- Basic math skills
- Legible handwriting
- Ability to deal with the public over the telephone and in person
- Patience
- Able to make a time commitment (You would need to report to the Box Office 1½ hours prior to curtain time; the time commitment is approximately 2 hours.)
Ushers/Beverage Bar/Canteen
Ushers show patrons to their seats and pass out playbills; ticket takers verify and tear ticket stubs. Canteen volunteers sell snacks, soft drinks, & water before the show and during intermission. Beverage bar volunteers serve soft drinks, water, and alcoholic beverages before the show and during intermission.
Volunteers must have:
- Excellent “people” skills
- Ability to work on a team
- Cash handling experience
- Leadership skills
- Able to make a time commitment (minimum of 4 hours when scheduled)
- Bar volunteers need to get a “yellow card” from the Liquor Commission
Garden
Jobs include watering, raking, weeding and planting.
You need to:
- Work with garden tools
- Be comfortable spending time outdoors.
- Able to make a time commitment (minimum of 2 hours per week)
Scene Shop
Scene shop work includes pre-production construction and post-production breakdown. Volunteers are needed during day and evening hours. We can always find a job for someone and training is provided.
Volunteers should:
- Express a willingness to learn all phases of set and prop construction
- Have a sense of humor
- Those who may have experience in any of the following is also helpful:
- Knowledge of hand and/or power tools
- Painting experience of any kind
- Electrical work experience
Stage Crew
The stage crew works under the direction of the stage manager. The stage crew moves set pieces and props during a show's performance, and ensures that all set pieces and props are secured at the end of a performance.
You MUST be:
- Available for all technical rehearsals and performances
- Able to work under stress
- Able to lift 50 pounds (desired)
- Willing to work on a team
- Able to listen and follow directions
Spotlight Operators
The spotlight operators work with the stage manager, lighting designer and light board operator to adequately provide lighting for the show. Previous experience is helpful, but not necessary.
You MUST be:
- Available for all technical rehearsals and performances
- Able to work under stress
- Willing to work on a team
- Able to listen and follow directions
Costume Shop
The Costume Shop volunteers assist with the production and maintenance of show costumes. You may also be asked to handle costume rentals.
Volunteers must possess:
- Hand and machine sewing skills
- Phone skills
- Patience
- Ability to work with the public as well as the actors
- A level-headed and calm demeanor
- Ability to work under stress
- Good sense of humor
- Ability to learn and handle costume rentals (optional)
- Able to make a time commitment weekly
In addition, volunteers are expected to be able to iron, launder, rip seams, sew buttons and the occasional bead, glue sequins, and generally be useful when and where needed.
Dressers
Dressers assist performers with costume changes during a show's performance.
You MUST be:
- Available for all technical rehearsals and performances
- Able to work under stress
- Willing to work with the performers
- Able to listen and follow directions
