THEATRICAL ARTS BUILDING

PHASE II:
THEATRICAL
ARTS BUILDING

Diamond Head Theatre imagines a redeveloped Theatrical Arts Building to bring community together in celebration of performing arts in Hawaii.

OUR DREAM FOR A NEW CENTER FOR THEATRICAL ARTS

Diamond Head Theatre’s ambitious campus-wide capital campaign to reimagine the theatre center continues. Its Theatrical Arts Building was built 40 years ago in August 1983. It has served as the humble home for the nonprofit’s costume shop, scene shop, rehearsal hall and education programs. This building is where DHT’s magic is made.

A newly reimagined space that will best serve the community will include:

More Education Space. Two renovated and expanded studios that will cultivate community talent, host classes for all ages and provide space for show rehearsals.

New Costume Center. A state-of-the-art costume center that will be dedicated to professional level costuming for shows as well as being a resource for schools, drama clubs and other local theaters. DHT holds Hawaii’s largest collection of costumes including vintage archival pieces from some of its earliest shows.

Offices. With the demolition of Ruger Theatre, DHT administration needed to move and are currently housed off-site. The new TAB building will serve as command central for our leadership team and support staff.

In conjunction with the new space build-out of the TAB, major infrastructure improvements are needed to waterproof and reinforce the building and install air conditioning.

40TH ANNIVERSARY OF
DHT’S THEATRICAL ARTS BUILDING

40 years ago a building was born

The year 2023 marks 40 years since our Annex to Fort Ruger Theatre opened its doors. It originally housed the costume shop, a rehearsal hall and the scene shop. The aging Annex struggled to accommodate the needs of the community particularly in arts education. Classes were full with waiting lists. We chose to save this building and are now focused on renovating and re-purposing it.

LEAD THE WAY

DHT embarks on Phase II of its capital campaign to redevelop its Theatrical Arts Building. Your most generous gift is needed. The January 2023 theatre opening marked the end of Phase I.

PHASE II: THEATRICAL ARTS BUILDING

The time is now to redevelop the Theatrical Arts Building to fulfill our promise to the community to build a true center for the performing arts in Hawaii. People of all ages, including educators, students, artists, and volunteers will come together in a new center that will include more space for education programs, a costume center, offices and parking.
