August 2024 – Renee loves to welcome patrons to the theatre with a smile and help them find their seats before the show. Volunteering at Diamond Head Theatre brings her a great sense of joy and belonging.
Patrons love her warmth and friendliness as they enter the theatre with eager anticipation of what's to come. Most have no idea that Renee is not a staff member. She’s a volunteer who lives in Waianae and drives an hour to our doorstep to serve as an usher. And only a few know that she’s been doing this since 1975. She’s our longest-running volunteer and has been with us even longer than Artistic Director John Rampage, an employee of 30 years.
Volunteers such asd Renee are the heart and soul of our events, programs and shows that Diamond Head Theatre offers. To recognize their countless contributions, the theater hosted a Volunteer Appreciation Event on August 31 that brought together all those who helped make DHT Hawaii's Broadway of the Pacific.
From ushering guests to their seats, serving as an actor or on the crew or offering refreshments at intermission, volunteers make it happen. They even assist backstage with set design and costume management. These dedicated community members drive our work. The appreciation event was our small way of sharing a heartful of thanks. The luncheon was an afternoon of gratitude, laughter and stories of behind-the-scenes teamwork.
